
1. Maintain your operating systems and applications by updating them to their most recent version, release or patch
2. Provide normal computer maintenance: run Scandisk, Defrag your drives, and delete temporary files3. Check your remaining hard drive space. Systems with less than 10-15% available space will run very slow. Remove unused files and programs
4. Check for adware, malware, and spyware. These are malicious programs that cause many types of problems, but almost always slow your system down
5. Review any applications you have recently downloaded or installed. This new program may have conflicts with existing programs or be taking up your system resources
6. Check your anti-virus settings and make sure your definitions are up-to-date. Anti-virus tools can protect you from harm, but they also can significantly reduce your download time or internet speed.
7. Validate that you don’t have many unused programs running or that start up automatically when you reboot.
