I worked for several years as the lead technician for Circuit City's Firedog before quitting and doing house calls. Then during college I started doing web design and quit doing house calls.
Now that I've graduated (Fall '09), I've found myself with loans to pay off and more free time! Sounds like the perfect time to help people with remote assistance, right?
And if you're wondering, I'm pretty much entirely self-taught. I think I might be MCDST certified, but I don't even remember. I know I had to do some certification to become the lead technician but it was basically a breeze and took about a day. Either way, certifications don't mean much to me because, believe me, just because someone went to ITT Tech doesn't mean they know what they're doing. A good amount of my work when at Circuit City and doing house calls was undoing problems caused by "certified" technicians. One ITT Tech graduate that was assigned to my store called me on the phone to ask how to install a hard drive. Yikes!
